Chosen a dramatic colour scheme? Pick moody French style invitations to match
One of the first (and most exciting) parts of planning a big event is choosing your wedding design concept. Perhaps you’ll choose black tie optional, a country boho theme, a western/cowboy concept or a high end glamorous affair. The possibilities are endless but once you’ve chosen a design concept you can confidently move onto select the perfect colour scheme to match. If you’re hosting a black tie event in France or it’s a French-inspired soiree, you might want to consider a dramatic colour scheme that can perfectly capture the style of this charming nation. And why not kickstart the celebrations with moody French style invitations.

But what events calls for such extravagance? Perhaps a wedding at the Four Seasons George V, or a black tie event for at Le Meurice, in Paris. Whatever the case, moody French style invitations could be the ideal way to set the tone for your event and give guests an idea of what to expect on the day.
To help get you inspired, I have put together this guide showcasing my top three moody French style invitations. You can check these out below, along with some more details about the colours and techniques I used to create these dramatic and captivating moody invitation suites.
Here is one of my first most favourite, moody designs.

Here’s how I go about creating some of the hand painted details that I focus on to create these moody French style invitations.
Getting married? Choose dark moody wedding invitations
The second French themed invitations we’re going to look at are perfect for a destination wedding or a French-inspired wedding day. Whether you’ve chosen a dreamy chateau with rustic interiors, a contemporary art gallery or a five-star hotel, you can use your venue to inspire your dark moody wedding invitations. These custom-designed, hand-painted invitations will be unique to you as a couple and are something you can cherish for years to come.
The use of the sultry black, plum, gold and yellow colour schemes were perfect for creating a moody invitation suite with a regal feel. I also ensure I use captivating brush strokes, elegant calligraphy and impeccable attention to detail in all my designs to create dramatic artwork, as I have done in this invitation suite.

Black tie themed event? Choose a dramatic moody invitation suite
It’s not just weddings that require memorable invitation suites, if you’re hosting a black tie event for a big milestone such as a 60th birthday or a more serious affair like a client dinner, you can make a real statement with some hand-painted French themed invitations. Below are some shots from a second moody suite I created, this time styled with a beautiful antique tray, black berries and some gentle green blossoms and focusing on using solely a black and gold colour palette.

Chosen a dark and moody colour scheme? Complement this with calligraphy invitations
Nothing offsets a dark and moody colour scheme quite like some elegant calligraphy. Not only this but for a French-inspired event, calligraphy can help to further capture all the charm and grandeur of the nation. In one of my more recent suites (featured below), you can see how the gold writing marries perfectly with the dark black background to create a sultry but luxurious vibe.
As you can see, this moody invitation suite uses a combination of calligraphy, florals, bold colours, regal-looking monograms and wax seals. When used together these create the perfect moody French style invitations ideal for a French-inspired event. This suite uses fewer colours, mainly black, gold, purple and pinks, but the bold contrast between the pink and the black papers creates a bold and beautiful finish.
